This is a vibrant growing medical campus with recent and ongoing expansion of programs, facilities, and faculty. The Department of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine has experienced similar significant growth in faculty and clinical expertise and has established itself as a regional and national center of excellence. The Department is seeking a dynamic individual to join our leadership team, who will help elevate the Department's national reputation as a leader in patient care, education, and clinical and translational research. The Department established a sub-specialization model in 2017 and currently has 25 clinical faculty handling more than 40,000 surgical pathology/cytology cases and over 4 million lab tests. The Department has a very modern, state-of-the-art Surgical and Clinical Pathology laboratory associated with The University of Kansas Health System. The Division of Cancer and Developmental Biology in the Department supports 15 research faculty who are performing cutting edge basic science and translational research, funded by NHLBI, NCI, and other NIH institutes. The Department's faculty are closely associated the NCI- designated Cancer Center and the residency and fellowship programs are flourishing, thanks to the growth of the Medical Center.Job Description:Required Qualifications: MD, MD/PhD or comparable terminal degree. Board-certified in Anatomic Pathology (AP) or Anatomic and Clinical Pathology (AP/CP). Experience at the level of professor at an accredited medical school in the United States or equivalent. Ability to qualify as a member of The University of Kansas Hospital's medical staff and a board-certified physician in an appropriate area of practice. Outstanding clinical abilities as a pathologist. Strong track record of leadership at an academic medical center or similar environment, and a demonstrated portfolio of professional successes. An outstanding track record of research publications, productivity, and mentorship. Experience and successes in developing science (especially with junior faculty) and in fund-raising to support the academic mission. Proven ability to develop and execute short- and long- term strategic initiatives. Excellent verbal, written, and group presentation skills. Strong personal and professional commitment to building and maintaining a diverse and inclusive workforce and a demonstrated ability to work effectively with individuals with diverse backgrounds and groups representing numerous social interests and needs. Excellent credentials as an academic scholar and educator. Experience with innovative educational methodologies and health care delivery systems.Preferred Qualifications: The ideal candidate will be expected to bring leadership experience and diagnostic expertise in Surgical Pathology, particularly in Breast Pathology and fulfill the role of senior faculty to help lead diagnostic services and residency/fellow education.Job Duties Outlined: As the Director of Translational Research, the prospective faculty will help mentor junior faculty, fellows, and residents in their scholarly activities, particularly in the area of clinical and translational research. Develop and coordinate departmental resources to advance the research infrastructure.
