Touro College Registered Nurse-Homecare in Vallejo, California

The registered nurse shall serve as the primary provider and clinician serving homebound patients in need of COVID 19 vaccination. The nurse will also periodically serve at immunization events including those providing COVID 19 vaccine as well as education to the public. The nurse will ensure the safe storage, preparation, reconstitution, and administration of vaccine as appropriate to homebound patients. They will serve as the key point of contact at events and liaison with university, community members and partners.

The position requires effective organizational, clinical, and interpersonal skills. The nurse must be a self-directed worker skilled in working independently in a home setting to ensure the safe and effective care of patients receiving vaccination. The nurse must enjoy a fast-paced flexible environment with focus on high quality individual and group interactions, possess excellent verbal and written communication skills and demonstrate sound clinical skills and ability to triage as needed to higher levels of care as appropriate to safe vaccine administration and post administration observation and care.

  • Provide medical care, supervision, oversight, and support of homebound patients requiring vaccination against COVID 19.

  • Serve as an educator to the greater public on the need to be vaccinated against COVID 19.

  • Work in collaboration with other clinicians as part of a comprehensive vaccination support healthcare team.

  • Precept graduate health care professional students at remote vaccination clinics to ensure safe, effective and excellence in patient care.

  • Collaborates with vaccination team to continually improve the provision of care at immunization clinics and homebound patient visits.

  • Document home visits as required as well as maintain clear and concise records of vaccine inventory and use.

Periodic Tasks:

  • Participate in quality review and team meetings

Supervisory Responsibilties:

  • Precept healthcare professional graduate students in the provision of vaccination and related care pre and post vaccination

Registered Nurse:

  • Possession of a valid Registered Nurse license issued by the California State Board of Registered Nursing

    Other Qualifiers:

  • Current BLS Certification

  • Ability to interact with patients and healthcare team to optimize positive outcomes.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • High level of self-direction and organization s skills; must be detail-orientated and accurate.

  • Possession of, a valid Class C, California driver’s license

  • Ability to independently travel to patient residence to provide care

  • Ability to work safely in an environment that may expose them to communicable disease

Core Competencies:

  • Provide safe and appropriate nursing care related to the appropriate screening for wellness of a patient to receive vaccination, appropriately transport, and prepare vaccination, prep a patient for vaccination, administer vaccination and then observe as needed for any adverse outcomes experienced.

  • The ability to manage acute distress in a patient and triage for emergent care provided by local emergency responders.

  • Utilize a laptop computer to document activities in a care note, and complete required documentation

  • Ability to create and maintain collaborative and productive work relationships

  • Ability to implement successful practices in front and back office management and staff professional development.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • High level of conceptual and organizational skills; must be detail-oriented and accurate

  • Demonstrated experience working independently on complex, ongoing projects with minimal supervision.
