Department Overview

Gas Operations is focused on ensuring the safe and reliable flow of natural gas to our customers. Gas Operations is responsible for all aspects of PG&E's gas distribution and transmission operations including planning, engineering, maintenance and construction, restoration and emergency response.

Position Summary

Works to detect, prevent and mitigate safety risks. Conducts and completes incident analysis and ensures the chain of command is notified. Provides subject matter expertise on incidents analysis and provides consultation and guidance on corrective action development. Collaborates with and supports line of businesses on safety issues. Utilizes safety trend analysis to identify and mitigate actions to correct gaps. Partners with learning academy to improve training quality. Serves as a resource for the development, implementation, and sustainability of the various companywide initiatives.

  • Position is headquarted in San Jose.

Job Responsibilities

  • Communicates safety trends and recommends safety corrective actions.

  • Conducts field and driver observations.

  • Conducts gap analysis of Safety programs.

  • Conducts trending of data to understand leading indicators of safety issues

  • Create safety action plans to strategize approach and provide guidance in development.

  • Delivers safety training and measures the effectiveness of training. Partners with learning academy to improve training quality.

  • Ensures mutual collaboration with line of business and integrate in all levels of the organization in regards to safety (field employees, grassroots).

  • Frequently shares safety information to all in an impactful and results oriented way.

  • Helps develop and implement new safety programs

  • May provide guidance to lower level Safety Specialists

  • Mentors supervisors on safety process and applicable programs.

  • Partners with LOB to conduct serious incident analysis.

  • Partners with supervisor to conduct and complete incident analysis of minor and serious incidents and ensure the chain of command is notified.

  • Provides guidance on coordinating annual training and training profiling as needed.

  • Provides SME on minor and serious incidents and provides consultation and guidance on corrective actions. Ensures completion of corrective actions.

  • Serve as a resource for the development, implementation, and sustainability of the various companywide initiatives. (Culture, near hit, grassroots, ergonomics, etc)

  • Serves as a liaison between the technical and practical aspect of safety and ensure implementation into the line of business.

  • Serves as a safety / LOB SME during training development.

  • Strategizes approach for LOB to measure success in safety measures. Provides strategic cost effective actions.

  • Supports compliance with applicable programs (Respirator, hearing, ergo)

  • Use trending analysis to identify and mitigate actions to correct gaps. Introduce and implement innovative solutions with impact to correct gaps. Communicates opportunities for improvement.

Qualifications

Minimum:

  • Associates Degree in Environmental Health and Safety or job-related discipline or equivalent experience

  • Experience in safety or equivalent, 5 years

  • CA Class C License, or equivalent

  • Ability to travel using personal vehicle

Desired:

  • Bachelors Degree or equivalent experience

  • ASP-Associate Safety Professional certification

  • CSP-Certified Safety Professional certification

  • CHST-Construction Health and Safety Technologist certification

  • OHST-Occupational Health and Safety Technologist certification
