Forbes Media Senior Healthcare Reporter in San Francisco, California
Forbes is seeking a senior reporter/editor to lead our business of healthcare coverage.
From gene editing to robotics to value-based care startups, healthcare is undergoing a rapid transformation marked by scientific breakthroughs and unorthodox business models. Forbes wants to tell this story through the entrepreneurs who are building the next generation of companies; the business leaders who think they can fix the current health system’s ills; and the scientists, doctors and patients who are shaping its future. Potential candidates will have a sense of the industry trends — what’s hot and what’s important; an interest in chasing both the science and the money. Interest in writing high impact features, profiles and investigations for Forbes.com and Forbes magazine; a track record of scoops and mentorship of a junior reporter; and willingness to be the public face of Forbes healthcare coverage are key.
Responsibilities and requirements:
Light editing of and collaboration with a junior reporter.
Helping recruit prospective contributors who can take over much of the day-to-day news flow.
Pitching profiles and features
Identifying up-and-coming healthcare honorees for lists such as the Forbes 30 Under 30
Bachelor’s degree in journalism, English, communications, or another appropriate field
At least 10 years of reporting or writing experience, with some of that background as a science or health writer
A Strong track record of cultivating sources, and an understanding of how to value a business and how to report on health.
Proven interest in writing narrative features, breaking exclusive spot news, and acting as an editorial lead for Forbes’ annual healthcare summit.
To apply, please submit a resume with cover letter that contains the following: A brief summary of your career as a science, healthcare or business journalist; a description of attached clips that show a range of scoops, features and profiles (not all have to be science or business, but some should be); and a cover letter that explains how you conceive of the healthcare beat.
