Sparklight Regional Controller - (Director) in Phoenix, Arizona


The Regional Controller (Director), reporting to the Vice President and Controller, is responsible for leading the financial close processes and financial reporting for one or many non-integrated wholly owned subsidiaries of Cable One. As a key leader in the accounting organization, this individual will be responsible for driving the team to produce accurate and timely information in a face-paced environment. A key element of the role will be partnering and collaborating with the functional accounting teams, working cross-functionally throughout the organization to develop and drive process improvement initiatives and implement best practices, and providing support to our operations as it relates to accounting matters.

The individual will also provide financial leadership and coordinate finance operating requirements within the Company and with current or future collaborations and business partners for the Company. 

What this position does to contribute to the Company’s success

  • Provides quality coaching, leadership, and direction to a high performing accounting team. Cultivates, pursues, and promotes a culture of continued excellence through individual and team growth.

  • Ensures compliance with corporate accounting policies, U.S. GAAP and regulatory requirements

  • Oversight and management of the Company’s monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close calendar, including account analysis and reconciliation processes as it relates to assigned entities.

  • Establish regulatory accounting team to partner with Regulatory Team to understand and support financial reporting requirements and ensure compliance with all regulations

  • Ensures internal controls are designed and operating effectively, identifies deficiencies, develops corrective action plans and continues monitoring for timely remediation and closure.

  • Coordinate with internal and external auditors to support their quarterly review and annual audit procedures. Researches technical accounting guidance and prepares technical accounting memos as needed.

  • Takes on other duties needed to help drive our Purpose, fulfill our Brand Principles, and abide by our Organization’s Values.


  • Bachelors degree from a four-year college with primary study in Accounting Finance, Business or Information Systems required

  • 10+ years of progressive experience within public company environment required

  • 3+ years of proven record of multiple direct reporting relationships required

  • 3+ years experience working in ILEC/Regulatory environment required

  • Superb attention to detail and strong planning and organization skills with concern for quality and deadlines required

  • Ability to manage multiple teams and professionals efficiently required

  • Strong knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and SEC accounting and reporting requirements including internal controls required

  • Must be a self-starter with the ability to multi-task, effectively prioritize, and deliver in a fast-paced, dynamic environment

  • Ability to think creatively, anticipate problems and opportunities, and develop vision for continuous improvement required

  • Strong leadership skills, consensus building capability, influencing skills and credibility with other functional areas; demonstrated ability to lead change in a complex organization required

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with ability to quickly and positively influence all levels of the organization required

  • Ability to work extra hours as needed to support the financial close required
