We are looking for a talented Human Factors Design Engineer - Software Engineer for the RD Engineering function of Medtronic Engineering and Innovation Center RD facility for our Cardiac Rhythm Management Operating Unit. The right person will be our go to person for implementing our HFE and to continuously look for opportunities to enhance the usability of our software.

A Day in the Life

Understand the clinical workflow for solutions to provide for a user-centric system interaction

Collaborate with multi-site teams to define new workflows based on User Research

Create wireframes, UX workflows and high definition User Interface prototypes to support the defined user interactions in product based software

Design for UX for a portfolio of products, work with UX/UI designers to identify the optimal User Experience design

Create storyboards to visually represent the different tasks in the usage of the system

Understand the Task Analysis for the clinical workflows and provide a safe path for user to complete the tasks as expected

Perform use error analysis, identify and design to obviate error conditions

Prepare high fidelity prototypes for plan and execute Usability tests, analyze data, document results and present recommendations to product teams

Use proven HFE methodologies and tools to recommend changes to improve the overall usability and ensure safe and reliable user experience

Support definition of system validation plans and create usability test protocols to test clinical efficacy of the system, participate in execution of system level validation through pre-clinical evaluation

Participate in identification and resolution of complex system issues with interdisciplinary colleagues

Participate in risk assessments and developing mitigation plans to ensure safe operation of the product in various scenarios

Author and contribute to HFE documentation needed for creating Usability Engineering File

Maintain high-quality documentation to meet quality management standards and to enable exchange of information across the global program te Provide hands-on leadership, coaching, mentoring, and software engineering best practices to junior software engineers.

Work under general direction and collaboratively with internal and external partners.

Education:

Required: Bachelors Degree in Engineering.

Masters degree in Design, Human Factors Engineering, Ergonomics, Usability Engineering or Cognitive Experimental Psychology from a reputed university is desired.

Required Experience:

8+ years of Software industry experience.

Required Skills/Competencies:

8+ years of experience in Usability, UX of multiple product software and product development

Strong experience with wireframing and graphic design tools

Ability to develop design concepts integrating technical and aesthetic considerations

Strong understanding of formal methods to assess and improve usability and error prevention mechanisms, IEC and FDA Usability Standards such as IEC 62366 and FDA Guidance on Usability for medical devices

Strong written and verbal communication skills, with attention to detail and thoroughness

Demonstrated ability to complete complex technical tasks on time, with high-quality documentation

Able to participate in late evening and/or early morning calls

Strong work ethic and initiative in accomplishing objectives, and delivering in ambiguous environments.

Preferred Skills/Competencies:

Experience in conducting Usability tests in simulated conditions and providing recommendations

Experience with preparing Usability documents for regulatory submission
