The Engineering Specialist – Microgrid Control Product Testing and Customer Support is a critical technical role for one of the Microgrid & Distributed Energy Resources (DER) control product line. This position will provide technical expertise to support troubleshooting customer problems, define technical requirements based on customer needs, and designing, assembling, and conduct testing on microgrid control product in accordance with all acceptable codes and standards and in collaboration with Microgrid Product Technical Lead. The Microgrid controls product will be based upon one of the existing Eaton control platforms focused on specific energy transition applications.
This role will have technical ownership of the control platform hardware, software, and communications testing. The role includes collaboration with the microgrid and energy transition application software development COE to evaluate different control platform, design, troubleshoot, and operate test fixtures for the purpose of evaluating theories or testing of products; contribute to the overall effectiveness of the Engineering Imperatives by maintaining a high level of involvement, motivation, and keeping abreast of current technical challenges; gather enough technical evidence to guide the engineering organization towards product development and new intellectual property (IP).

Skills and responsibilities include:
Assume technical engineering responsibility for the product line testing. Execute all design, development, and related technical testing required to develop and maintain the microgrid control product.
In collaboration with Microgrid Product Technical Lead, Lead the efforts for appropriate hardware, testing, and evaluation of existing Eaton control platform, parts, equipment, tools, and systems along with necessary corrective follow-up.
Maintain test drawings, design necessary testing, execute and document test profiles and procedures in accordance with modern methods and standards.
Reviews test methods required by standards and develop procedures as needed to provide repeatable test practices. Incorporates changes to improve safety, quality, effectiveness, and efficiency
Serve as technical point of contact for customers and work with engineering and manufacturing team to troubleshooting customer problems and advance microgrid control product requirements and maintain quality and develop future features & functions.
Collaborate as part of the Scrum team in testing hardware and software platform, reviewing requirements, grooming user stories, and creating acceptance criteria
Collaborate effectively with external and internal customers, such as marketing product managers and product line managers, service engineers, and other engineering teams throughout the product development lifecycle.
Create HIL and CHIL tests and models using RTDS and Single-board computers to test Microgrid control product. Write, and debug Codesys/Python/C/C++ with an emphasis on generating code that is organized, structured, documented, maintainable and reusable. Troubleshoot and debug issues with test equipment.
Provide insight and status of test performance, manage and coordinate test schedules, and Summarize, analyze test results, and recommends next steps.
Maintain updated knowledge of microgrid integration and control standards, UL, NEC, CSA, NEMA, CANENA, IEEE, IEC.
Actively encourage innovation and ensure pursuing modern techniques and technologies to improve microgrid control product line.

Required (Basic) Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Software Engineering from an accredited institution.
Minimum of 4 years of experience in product testing and design and/or R&D development environment working in Electrical Distribution, DER, Renewables, and Microgrid field.
Must reside within a 50-mile radius of the work location(s) listed on this posting. No relocation is being offered for this role.
Minimum 3 years of experience working with microgrid control projects or power systems automation projects or working with PLC programming
Experience with software, embedded systems, hardware, power systems logic controller, or substation automation controller development.
Knowledge of programming tools such as Python, SQL, C++, C#, or equivalent.
Knowledge in various software applications– i.e. Computer-Aided Design (AutoCAD and Inventor preferred), MS Office suite, MiniTab, etc.
Experience with product engineering, systems engineering, reliability engineering, failure analysis, systems test engineering, or product quality engineering.
Strong understanding of software requirements, development, and analysis.
Experience in testing techniques, HIL and CHIL testing, power system test equipment, and measurement instrumentation.
Position Success Criteria:
Successfully complete and maintain compliance with the company’s safety program
Knowledge and understanding of best engineering practices for design and testing of automation systems, power management systems, human-machine interface software, PLC programming, etc.
Demonstrated experience in hardware, software, and controls development for DERs and microgrids.
Ability to read and write Drawings, Specifications, and Requirements.
Solid power system modeling experience in PSCAD, RSCAD, SIMULINK, and knowledge of HIL and CHIL using RTDS.
Understanding of renewable energy integration, and battery energy storage systems & microgrid controls, energy management systems, and electrical SCADA applications.
Working knowledge of utility industry communications protocols (e.g., Modbus, DNP3, IEC61850, SunSpec, 2030.5).
Experience working with Agile/Scrum methodologies, with in-depth knowledge of related processes and principles
Exceptional ability to lead, collaborate, openly communicate, influence others, present, and negotiate effectively across disciplines and stakeholders (marketing, engineering, customer support, etc.)
Demonstrated experience delivering results in an ambiguous and changing environment, with the ability to work independently and be a self-starter, working multi-task on several initiatives at one time, in a fast-moving and evolving business
Ability to demonstrate technical learning and can learn new skills, knowledge, industry, product, or technical knowledge
Ability to travel domestically and internationally (primarily Pune, India; Canada, and Europe)
Excellent interpersonal, verbal, written communication, and presentation skills
Knowledge of engineering tools such as JIRA, JAMA, Bitbucket, Confluence.
