CHS has an exciting opportunity at our Oil Refinery facility in McPherson, Kansas. We are looking for a Safety Engineer to work with the PSM and Safety Supervisors to continuously improve CHS McPherson Refinery operations with the development, implementation, and continual improvement of an Integrated Safety Management System designed to achieve Refinery objectives for Loss Control in the areas of Health, Safety, Process Safety, and Employee Training. You must be a detail-oriented, results-driven individual with a commitment to quality, accuracy and the ability to organize and prioritize workloads to meet deadlines. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with a strong commitment to customer service, and the ability to work in both a team environment and on self-directed tasks are necessary.
Be responsible for safety and health compliance with state and federal regulations and other related safety and health standards. Interface with a diverse group of stakeholders, including process and mechanical engineering, operations, maintenance, plant management, and outside regulatory agencies.
Be responsible as a member of a dynamic team to provide site safety engineering support through leadership in the identification and resolution of safety related problems.
Be responsible for CHS MRI Industrial Hygiene program: identification, assessing, and managing (control, eliminate, or mitigate) potential health hazards in the workplace.
Be responsible for day-to-day management of gas monitors/occupational safety instrumentation to assure functionality and reliability.
Support H&S Team with CHS MRI HAZCOM program.
Support H&S Team with site ergonomics program to reduce frequency of employee injuries.
Employ management system tools (e.g., iNet, PRiSM, Enablon, and MAXIMO) to develop and drive Standards, SOPs, Plans, Administrative Controls and Systems targeted to achieve our Operational Excellence Program objectives for establishing industry leading personal safety, process safety, and regulatory compliance programs and their supporting training programs.
Research and interpret new and current regulatory requirements.
Data mine management system tools to successfully develop and report Safety KPIs as it relates to health and safety strategy.
Develop and perform safety assessments and training to assure regulatory compliance.
Provide health & safety consultation to capital and plant small project efforts from project conception through execution phases.
Participate in RPT Operational Excellence Teams related to occupational safety.
Assist in the monitoring and improvement of Safety related contractor activities, incident reviews, and policies.
Support IT in the development, implementation, and continual improvement of the tools that support the Integrated Management System (e.g., IH and SDS Enablon modules).
Basic Qualifications (required)
Bachelor's degree in an engineering or related engineering field from an ABET accredited four-year college or university
3-5 years of refinery experience
Or equivalent combination of education and experience
Preferred Qualifications (desired)
Experience in management systems such as OHSAS 18001:2007, ISO 14001:2004, IS0 9001:2008, ISO 50001
