Job Summary:

The Family Engagement and Relationships Extension Educator is an integral part of the UW-Madison Division of Extension and works alongside the people of Wisconsin to improve lives and communities. Extension serves the people and communities of Wisconsin by addressing local, statewide and national issues, improving lives through research-based education, fostering partnerships and action, and facilitating positive impacts.

This position is a part of the Division of Extension Human Development Institute. The Institute provides the tools Wisconsinites need to thrive as well-rounded, capable individuals and families. We support families in caring for each other in ways that promote growth and understanding. Our programs promote aging-friendly communities, coach effective parents and help families put technology, mindfulness, and financial awareness to use.

This dynamic position has an emphasis in the Parenting and Family Relationships Program with a primary focus on:

  1. Planning, delivering, and evaluating the programming and activities for families in Dane County involved in local justice systems including Parenting from the Inside Out, the Literacy Link program, financial education and more.

  2. Leading and teaching Division of Extension education curriculum that strengthens families with a focus on justice-involved families, supporting family relationships and building financial literacy.

  3. Expanding access to the full range of Extension educational programming for all families, particularly in communities that are underrepresented such as racial minorities and those from low-income households.

  4. Linking community family serving organizations to university resources or directly providing parenting and family training to organizations.

Required

Bachelor's Degree in a field that relates to the position, including family science, human development, child psychology, education, social work, counseling, and criminal justice; Or an Associates degree and 5+ years of relevant job experience considered; or 60 college credits and 5+ years of relevant job experience may be considered.

Preferred

Master's Degree in a field that relates to the position, including family science, human development, child psychology, education, social work, counseling, and criminal justice

Qualifications:

REQUIRED

  1. Bachelor's Degree in a field that relates to the position, including family science, human development, child psychology, education, social work, counseling, and criminal justice; Or an Associates degree and 5+ years of relevant job experience considered; or 60 college credits and 5+ years of relevant job experience may be considered.

  2. At least two years of experience relevant to the educational programming and service delivery of the position.

  3. Demonstrated commitment to serve families in transition; including justice involved families, families with limited income, and others.

  4. Ability to work cooperatively with other agencies, community-based services, or organizations to address educational needs particularly criminal justice partners.

  5. Strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to build and maintain professional work environments.

  6. Experience managing multiple tasks, timelines, and schedules while maintaining high quality work

  7. Ability to communicate effectively using a variety of methods and technology.

  8. Experience effectively working with people from different cultural backgrounds, including those associated with race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, socioeconomic status, age, gender, disability, sexual orientation, and other aspects of human diversity.

PREFERRED

  1. A Master's degree in a field that relates to the position, including family science, human development, child psychology, education, social work, counseling, and criminal justice

  2. At least five years of work or lived experience relevant to the programmatic responsibilities of the position.

  3. Demonstrated success in developing, delivering, and evaluating educational programs for diverse audiences utilizing a variety of educational techniques, methods, and modes.

  4. Demonstrated experience developing effective partnerships or coalitions with community partners and local governments especially within the criminal justice system.

  5. Demonstrated skill in interpreting, utilizing, and applying evidence-based information and research findings to the benefit of incarcerated populations and their families.

Additional Information:

  1. The primary accountability relationship for this position is the Area Extension Director (Area #18) for supervision, compensation and benefits and performance reviews;

  2. This position's primary programming focus is Dane County; however some programming will also be conducted over a broader geographical area;

  3. Office location and programming coverage is contingent on county funding support and location may be reassigned to align with county and Extension programming priorities;

  4. Expectation to make arrangements for transportation adequate to meet position responsibilities and essential job functions;

  5. Work evenings or weekends as needed to meet programming needs.
