GEHA Splunk Engineer in Lee’s Summit, Missouri

The Splunk Engineer’s primary role is to ensure the stable operations of the Splunk environment. This includes monitoring, configuring, installing, administering, planning, developing, maintaining, and supporting the availability of Splunk. This role is responsible for maintaining the backend of Splunk, creating alerting, and building dashboards for users across the organization.

Splunk Engineer is a Self-starter, able to work with minimal direction from management. Understands the need for lateral thinking and displays willingness to adapt to new ways of doing business.

SKILLS

• Work with product teams to determine new Splunk monitoring and alerts

• Monitor and maintain Splunk performance, availability, and capacity

• Provides performance statistics, and reports as directed by Leadership.

• Develop reliable, efficient Splunk queries that will feed custom alerts and dashboards.

• Develop Splunk alerts and dashboards.

• Facilitate workshops to help leverage the full value of Splunk solutions

• Identify and gather requirements for Splunk use cases.

• Create and maintain documentation related to architecture and operational processes for Splunk

• Mentor members of the technical staff to support and assist in Splunk-related activities

• Engage application and infrastructure teams to establish best practices for utilizing Splunk data and visualizations

• Self-starting, able to work with minimal direction from management. Understands need for lateral thinking; Displays willingness to adapt to new ways of doing business.

• Improves existing team processes. Creates effective documentation used by others. Attention to detail. Digs in and makes progress on work. Stays focused and isn't distracted by irrelevant things.

• Requires a Bachelor's degree (120 credit hours) in Computer Science, Information Systems Management, Telecommunications, or qualified technology certifications in network, systems, or other related certifications.

• Additional years of qualifying work experience may be considered in lieu of formal education.

• Requires two years Splunk Engineer experience

• Requires a working knowledge of Splunk Enterprise Security

• Requires experience performing Splunk Admin/Production Support

• Requires understanding of Splunk components to include but not limited to: Splunk Search Processing Language (SPL), Enterprise Security (ES), HTTP Event Collector (HEC), Deployment Servers, Universal Forwarders (UF), Indexer, and Heavy Forwarders (HF)

• Requires experience on-boarding new Splunk logs

• Requires Linux Administration experience

• Requires experience in Developing Splunk Dashboards, Report, Alerts, Visualizations and Optimize searches.

• Requires effective verbal and written communication skills to consult with management, business partners, users and vendors.

• Requires effective organizational skills and the ability to manage frequent interruptions and multiple priorities.

• Requires the ability to relate well with coworkers and vendor representatives in order to enlist cooperation and provide guidance.

• Preferred experience with scripting languages to automate tasks and manipulate data

• Preferred recent experience with log collection from Azure

• Preferred Splunk Certified Administrator and Splunk Enterprise Security Certified Admin

• Preferred experience with Risk Base Alerting (RBA)

• Preferred working knowledge of IT Service Intelligence (ITSI)

• Preferred experience utilizing Syslog-ng for log collection

• Preferred Orion Experience
