Air Force Safety Center SUPERVISORY SAFETY ENGINEER in Kirtland AFB, New Mexico

The primary purpose of this position is to serve as a first level supervisor, providing planning, directing, organizing, and exercising control over nonsupervisory employees assigned to Air Force Safety Center (AFSEC) Weapons Safety Division


Exercises supervisory personnel management responsibilities. Advises and provides counsel to employees regarding policies, procedures, and directives of management.

Plans, organizes, and directs the activities of Air Force Safety Center, Weapons Safety Division, Nuclear Weapons Surety Branch ensuring that policies complies with legal and regulatory requirements and meets customer needs.

Represents Headquarters Air Force Safety Center with a variety of installation and functional area organizations.

Plans, develops, organizes, and manages strategic nuclear surety initiatives having Air Force-wide impact and all activities associated with the Nuclear Weapons Surety Branch.

Conducts reinvigoration and strengthening of nuclear surety programs within the Air Force nuclear enterprise for the Chief of Safety.

YOU MUST SUBMIT COPIES OF YOUR TRANSCRIPTS In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-14, or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience includes developing nuclear weapons surety and directed energy weapons program management and safety criteria, and administer and assess the effectiveness of a diverse nuclear weapons surety program and directed energy weapons safety throughout the USAF for Combatant/Major Command- and installation-level organizations, which also impacts the safety of operations involving other DoD military Services, US Federal Government Agencies, foreign military coalition partners, and neighboring civilian (CONUS and OCONUS) communities. Approving nuclear weapon system designs, modifications, and alterations and approve/certify them for fielding (i.e. provide nuclear safety design certification). Establish and/or revise Directed Energy Weapons Safety (DEW) policies and approve DEW systems for use by the warfighter. FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-­grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-14 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-15 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: 1. Knowledge of nuclear surety (safety, security, reliability) and directed energy weapons safety principles, practices, procedures, laws, regulations, and current legislative issues.

  1. Knowledge and skill sufficient to formulate new mishap prevention program management theories, principles, concepts, and practices. 3. Knowledge of safety and security regulations, practices, and procedures.

  2. Ability to plan, organize, and direct the functions and staff of a small to medium sized organization. 5. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

  3. Knowledge of general safety engineering principles, system software safety, explosive safety requirements, and USAF nuclear weapon systems operations and capabilities.

  4. Skill in assessing and evaluating broad nuclear surety program issues and providing guidance for resolving mission-critical problems impacting operations of nuclear weapon systems PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Tax Law Impact for PCS: On 22-Dec-2017, Public Law 115-97 - the "Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017 suspended qualified moving expense deductions along with the exclusion for employer reimbursements and payments of moving expenses effective 01-Jan-2018 for tax years 2018 through 2025.
