The Sikorsky Aircraft Design Department (in the Rotary and Mission Systems business area of Lockheed Martin) is looking for a talented and energetic design Manager to lead the Aircraft Design Team in WPB FL. The Manager will report directly to the ADDD Director, with the primary customers being the WPB General Manager and Flight Test Senior Manager.

The Manager will supervise a diverse group of 20 engineers consisting of Airframe, Electrical, and Propulsion Designers. This team provides on site design engineering support for flight test development and production spanning airframe design, composite design, mechanical systems, aircraft interiors and completions, electrical harness & wiring, equipment installation and propulsion integration. Support may also be provided to larger project teams spread across multiple locations. Primary products include the iconic H-60 BLACK HAWK; commercial S-92; CH-53K King Stallion, and the high speed X-2 technology family of development aircraft. The WPB design team is supported locally by WPB Structures, Manufacturing Engineering, and CMO organizations, and has reach back to core functional Sikorsky design organizations. The WPB Design Manager is responsible for all technical aspects of the design work performed by the team, and will work closely with Operations, Flight Test, and Quality to ensure build and flight test schedules are maintained. This includes on time delivery of compliant and competitive proposals; on time and on budget delivery of engineering work products with no technical escapes. It also includes willingness to support flight test activities before/after regular hours when required.

The Manager is expected to apply first principles, strive for design elegance, use the most sophisticated tools when applicable. In addition to innovation and design excellence the Manager must be committed to continuous improvement and enterprise excellence, with actionable tracking metrics. The Manager is expected to embrace and implement digital tools and processes in support of the Lockheed Martin digital transformation initiative. Beyond the technical leadership and oversight, the Manager is responsible for career development and personal growth of the engineers on the team. This requires sensitivity to Global Diversity and Inclusion in all its dimensions.

Basic Qualifications:

A BS in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering (or equivalent engineering degree) with 14 years industry experience, or an MS in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering (or equivalent degree) with 12 years industry experience.

Candidates who have 18 years of industry experience and an AS degree will be considered in lieu of a BS degree.

Must be a US Person.

Desired Skills:

Experience with earned value management and system engineering processes to ensure projects are completed on time and within established budget is required. Strong interpersonal and communication skills with Executives, flight test team, manufacturing team and customers is required. A commitment to developing and growing the teams’ technical presence in Sikorsky and Lockheed Martin and externally is expected. Membership in at least one professional technical society is expected. Familiarity with design for additive manufacturing is preferred. Flight test experience will be advantageous.
