MD Anderson Cancer Center Vocational Nurse - Donor Operations in Houston, Texas
JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES
Provides direct and indirect care to donors as a member of the nursing team.
Explains blood collection process to Donors.
Ensures donors are evaluated using all current regulatory guidelines.
Ensuring patient acceptability by performing physical examinations.
Take medical history while maintaining donor confidentiality.
Provide Donor Education regarding general health assessment.
Monitor Donations for injuries and/or adverse events.
Partners with the Transfusion Medicine Physicians to ensure donor safety and appropriate follow-up to testing results and any adverse reactions.
Organizes and prioritizes work of donor team.
Trains, coaches and assists team members to ensure optimum donor care and efficient use of resources.
Able to perform multiple tasks while working in a fast paced environment.
Other duties as assigned
Completion of an approved school of vocational practical nursing. No experience. Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) by the Texas Board of Nursing.Basic Life Support (BLS) or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification. Preferred: American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS), ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) or PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) certification as required by patient care area.
