The coolest jobs on this planet… or any other… are with Lockheed Martin Space. The GN&C Common Controls group provides design solutions for several spacecraft and missile programs by developing FPGA based control algorithms for flight control system hardware.

As a Guidance, Navigation & Control (GN&C) engineer you will assist with development activities within our Space and Missiles programs. You will be responsible for simulation development and checkout of the algorithms followed up with lab test of real hardware for validation of models and algorithms. Also, you will conduct performance related analysis to validate requirements, document and present your analysis results. The group is focused on developing low-level inner loop controllers that will reside on FPGAs (like TVC controllers, gimbal controllers, etc). Those algorithms are developed in CoreSim, in Simulink and autocoded into HDL code to reside on the FPGA.

This position requires obtaining and maintaining an active DoD secret clearance. U.S. Citizenship is required.

Basic Qualifications:

• BS or MS degree in Engineering or Physics with knowledge of GN&C control theory and physical modeling related to spacecraft and/or missile systems

• Control loop design experience

• Experience with software, simulation and programming tools (ex. Matlab/Simulink, C++, Python)

• Ability to collaborate with multi-functional teams and have excellent verbal and written communication skills

• Willingness and ability to obtain a Secret clearance

Desired Skills:

• Possess an active Secret clearance

• Experience with the following: FPGAs/HDL code, Python scripting, 3-phase motors, data acquisition and processing, and autocoding with MATLAB/SIMULINK

• Experience with lab testing of hardware and algorithms

• Demonstrated good communication skills with the ability to articulate complex technical issues to peers, management, subcontractors and customers.

• Possess broad GN&C skills including navigation, dynamics and control, attitude determination, kalman filtering and GN&C hardware knowledge
