Pratt & Whitney, a Raytheon Technologies Corp. company (NYSE:RTX), is a world leader in the design, manufacture and service of aircraft engines, auxiliary power units and small turbojet propulsion products. The Pratt & Whitney Materials and Processes Engineering (MPE) organization is seeking an engineer to execute Corrosion Resistant Coating/Alloy development, characterization, and production implementation in current & future jet engines.
The engineer will serve customers across the enterprise (supply chain, engine programs, advanced technology, etc.) to plan, execute, and report on technical research and development related to corrosion resistant coatings and alloys. Projects will range from engine safety, production stoppage, new/repair technology development, cost reduction, etc. where the engineer will understand customer requirements and execute development programs to meet and exceed business needs. The engineer will collaborate with other internal engineering disciplines, engineering management and manufacturing customers as part of an Integrated Product Team to ensure successful transition and implementation of technology into Pratt & Whitney’s products. To perform this role effectively, the candidate is expected to be proficient in or able to attain proficiency in the physical metallurgy and corrosion characteristics of coatings/alloys and associated application processes such as diffusion process, Chemical Vapor Deposition (CVD), thermal spraying, slurry, and plating as well as characterization (mechanical, physical & metallography) of these materials. In addition, working knowledge of integrated computational modeling tools and frameworks (e.g. Thermo-Calc, FactSage, etc.) is desired to effectively solve complex problems. Candidates will also lead elements or entire initiatives to establish next generation coatings/alloys with unique capabilities for specific applications.
The candidate will interface with the Air Force Research Lab (AFRL), Department of Defense (DOD), Department of Energy (DOE) and NASA customers & lab technical community to seek, secure and execute contracts. Experience with program planning, cost estimation and scheduling in addition to meeting contractual requirements during execution is preferred. The candidate must be able to work effectively in a team environment and be highly motivated. The candidate will be viewed as a discipline leader and responsibilities include bench-marking coating/alloy technology and processes, securing funding, managing projects, and updating engineering standard work.

B.S. degree in Materials Science, Engineering, or Chemistry
5+ years of relevant engineering experience or 3+ year's with a Masters or 0 w/a PhD
Candidate must be a US Citizen or Green card holder with ability to obtain a US Citizenship.
Fundamental understanding of oxidation mechanisms in aerospace alloys
Experience in testing and characterization of nickel based super alloys and/or metallic coatings in corrosive atmospheres
Fundamental understanding of effects of environmental contaminates such as sulfur and salt on corrosion performance of aerospace materials
Experience in data collection, data management, and data analysis methods.
