Ohio State University Assistant Director in Columbus, Ohio
Summary of Duties:
Under the direction of the Simulation Innovation and Modeling Center (SIMCenter) Director, serves as the SIMCenter Assistant Director to provide high-level oversight of the centers business operations and core administrative staff; directs and manages the formulation and implementation of SIMCenter’s administrative policies and procedures to streamline the center’s operations; supports Director’s cultivation of new collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders, and with academic research communities, industry, and national and state government sponsors to elevate the national reputation and business growth opportunities; consults with the Finance Manager for Research Administration, the College of Engineering (CoE) leadership to manage all administrative, operational, fiscal, and human resources functions within SIMCenter; integrates the personnel, fiscal and operations functions of SIMCenter to create a cost-effective model; establishes priorities and supervises administrative and program staff (e.g. provides developmental opportunities, coaches staff to foster development, evaluates performance, approves section staffing levels, recommends discipline, etc.); provides oversight and mentors research staff members who manage research projects and/or distance education programs within SIMCenter; supports ongoing engagement with established industry partners, university stakeholders and state government; provides programmatic support to the execution of the SIMCenter external advisory board; provides direction for SIMCenter using ongoing metrics, trends, routine and ad hoc reports, analysis, and dashboards as a basis for strategic planning, assessing research and financial performance, and anticipating opportunities for growth; oversees SIMCenter grant operations and provides pre-award budget support and coordinates administrative components of proposal submission; supports Director with center-wide leadership and oversight of staff and student mentorship, space and facilities, research operations, software licensures, and user needs; collaborates with Engineering Research Administration (ERA) leadership team to ensure SIMCenter’s compliance to with applicable operational policies; serves as technical expert for administrative and fiscal functions.

Bachelor’s degree in business admin-mgt sciences or an equivalent combination of education and experience; three or more years of experience overseeing business and/or administrative operations; proven ability to effectively participate in the planning, organization and operation of a growing, diverse and technically complex business or academic area; strong written and oral communication skills; proven success in overseeing the management of budgets, personnel, administrative operations, and programmatic initiatives in an engineering, industry, or manufacturing setting; ability to interact with diverse internal and external stakeholders.
One or more years of supervision experience; proven ability to write and assemble successful business plans, as well as funding applications to government and private agencies and foundations.
Target Salary: $75,000.00 - $85,000.00 Annually
