Kemper is growing and seeking an Investment Finance Manager to work at our headquarters in downtown Chicago. The role is a new position within the Kemper Investment group, which manages a $9.8 billion portfolio of assets for its insurance affiliates. Candidate will serve as part of a team to compile, model and analyze financial data required to support the Kemper Investment Group and report to the VP Investment Finance. The individual will also be responsible for numerous ad hoc projects and follow up requests to assist the VP Investment Finance in discharging his duties.
Construct and maintain structured financial and operational analysis models as tools to aid in expense analysis and monthly reporting
Prepare data that can be used for upper level reports and presentations
Aggregate and organize financial data from multiple platforms and systems and suggest procedural changes to increase the accuracy, effectiveness, and efficiency of models and reports used or produced by the team
Document work processes, including data sources and definitions to help ensure data accuracy
Frequently interact and coordinate with other departments outside of Investments to address business issues and to meet organizational objectives
Support the development and analysis of Investments performance, including net investment income and investment expenses
Interpret data and identify trends to assist the VP Investment Finance to understand key drivers of results, make decisions, and to develop strategy
Develop new reports and models to drive key leadership insights into business performance
Assist VP Investment Finance on projects as needed as well as Compliance and Planning team members on an ad hoc basis
3+ years of corporate finance, analysis, or accounting experience
Experience working in an asset management firm, insurance company or audit firm preferred
Intermediate or Advanced Excel skills required
Knowledge of financial statements a plus (i.e., income, balance sheet and cash flow statements)
Strong knowledge and familiarity with systems and coding is required
Experience with investment systems a plus (e.g., Aladdin, eFront, Bloomberg, Reuters)
Bachelor’s degree in finance, statistics, business, accounting, economics, or equivalent
Highly analytical with strong critical thinking skills and ability to provide compliance guidance that balances relevant regulatory requirements, risk mitigation and business objectives
Ability to spot relevant issues and solve problems through a practical business lens
Exceptional written and oral communication skills
Must excel at collaboration, partnership and relationship building among internal and external stakeholders
Self-directed, intellectually curious, and advocate for change
Continuous improvement and global business mindset
Proven ability to demonstrate nimble, innovative thinking and implementation of best practices
Ability to navigate in a complex matrixed organization
