University of Virginia Pharmacy Technician Operations-UVA Specialty Pharmacy in Charlottesville, Virginia
The Specialty Pharmacy Technician ensures that the pharmacy operates safely and efficiently. Duties include: maintaining patient records, preparing and processing prescriptions, answering telephone calls, communicating with patients, payors, and healthcare providers, inventory management,
shipping, and patient services. The Specialty Pharmacy Technician must be accurate and meticulous to avoid possible errors and ensure safety. They must be able to work under stressful conditions and communicate clearly and accurately.
Demonstrates the ability to competently work in general and specialized areas of pharmacy practice.
Participates in the training of new employees.
Fills and delivers medications under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist/licensed independent practitioner.
Policies and procedures are followed consistently.
Ensures adequate supplies are available for continuous patient care.
Triages and escalates any questions or issues outside the pharmacy technician scope of practice to the staff pharmacist or supervisor as needed.
Uses appropriate systems for processing of patient information.
Ensures quality assurance is maintained according to departmental and legal requirements.
Operates pharmacy equipment appropriately.
In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.
Position Compensation Range: $17.65 - $27.36 Hourly
Education: High School Graduate or Equivalent
Experience: 6 months minimum relevant experience required
License/Certification: Commonwealth of Virginia Pharmacy Technician Registration required. CPhT credential through National Healthcareer Association (NHA) or Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) required. For team members hired prior to February 1, 2020, certification as CPhT through NHA or PTCB is required by January 31, 2022.
Job requires standing for prolonged periods. Proficient communicative, auditory and visual skills; Attention to detail and ability to write legibly; Ability to lift/push/pull less than 20lbs.
