Schaefer Systems International, Inc. Director of Business Development in Charlotte, North Carolina

As Director of Business Development, your primary objective will be to generate quality, targeted leads for the sales organization. You will report to the North American Vice President of Sales and will work with North American Market Sector Leads and their global Business Unit counterparts to define and execute business plans to achieve this objective. It is a cross-functional role requiring collaboration with internal stakeholders (sales, engineering, marketing, and innovations group) and strategic positioning with external enablers (industry partners, consultants, and other influencers).

In this role, you will:

  • Work with sales market sector heads to develop a strategy and business plan for their market. Provide the continuity between all market sector heads to establish best practices and drive efficiency.

  • There are 6 defined market sectors: Fashion, Food & Beverage, Industry, Healthcare & Cosmetics, and (Retail/Wholesale + Food Retail, combined into one sector).

  • Perform gap analysis of market needs relative to Schaefer capabilities and competitive offerings. Gather input from internal stakeholders to complete the gap analysis. Report on gap analysis and provide input to executive management and global innovations group.

  • Short-term plans will focus on where and how Schaefer can achieve success with the existing technologies and capabilities (specific markets and customers to focus on).

  • Mid-term and long-term plans will focus on working with the Global Business unit (Market Sector heads and Global Innovation) to business case justification for strategic partnerships that will provide access to other technologies and solutions that will provide competitive advantage.

  • Collaborate with marketing and sales to create messaging content and bring awareness of Schaefer’s competitive offerings to the market.

  • Proactively engage with consultants, customers, partners, and other influencers to promote Schaefer’s capabilities and competitive offerings, specifically with the intent of generating targeted leads.

  • Occasionally participate in key customer presentations, providing leadership support to the sales process when needed.

  • Collaborative leadership experience in a cross-functional role

  • Experience with business development activities including market analysis and business plans

  • Knowledge of industry-leading technologies and solutions, within the various market sectors, in order to perform meaningful gap analysis and collaborate with internal stakeholders and partners

  • Experience defining and implementing work flow processes

  • Experience with multi-national organizations (not required, but helpful)

  • Experience leading presentations and discussions with industry consultants and other influencers

  • Strong presentation skills and the ability to promote your ideas effectively

  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to distill information to its most relevant content

  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to cultivate good working relationships

  • Must be able to travel regularly as needed for internal and external workshops, including overseas
