Job SummaryResponsible for planning and executing the production scheduling activities necessary to meet the company’s sales goals and service commitments. "Demonstrate leadership in communicating business goals, programs, and processes for production control across a specific focus area within the Buford Production Planning team.Responsible for planning and executing the production scheduling activities necessary to meet the company’s sales goals and service commitments. Develop and maintain a master production plan to ensure a smooth and cost-efficient flow of production orders by optimizing resources, throughput, and inventory to ensure that customer requirements are fulfilled on time."Own fulfillment for Production planning and the related KPIs. Utilize experience and expertise to solve problems, develop and execute objectives for self and others, and drive improvements to tools and processes pertaining to production planning and control.


  • Develop an intricate understanding of the company’s complex web of various customer agreements regarding shipping lead times and order fulfillment.

  • Create and manage a daily production schedule that will satisfy the maximum number of sales commitments.

  • Develop an understanding of the cycle times and resource requirements each day to maximize production.

  • Set up, schedule, and manage work order size and timing by working closely with the project management team.

  • Understand on-hand inventory for each account to aid in the management and scheduling of production work orders.

  • Create, circulate, and manage various system-generated reports to aid in product realization.

  • Maximize the availability of product to meet customer orders by understanding and developing the link between production scheduling and distribution activities.

  • Develop a system that will allow the organization to develop safe stock levels on high-volume products.

  • Monitor and track work orders to anticipate non-estimated delays.

  • Interact with purchasing, production, and project management to meet sales orders commitments.

  • Identify, communicate and coordinate schedule changes due to material, operational or inventory challenges. Recommend plans for alternative production schedules to include identifying constraints, alternative solutions and recovery plans.

  • Manage team of PMA to ensure appropriate builds are in the system according to production planning schedule.

  • Develop and drive schedules, recovery plans, and prioritizations across your focus area to ensure customer fulfillment while maximizing business impact.

  • Develop and implement a common set of KPIs, tools and practices to drive accountability across all functions of the organization.

  • Mentor and empower team members in the attainment of goals with respect to schedule adherence.

  • Facilitate positive communication rhythms with key stakeholders such as Operations Leaders and Material Managers by participating in initiatives to align materials management strategies with business goals and objectives.

  • Address issues when they arise aiming for minimum disruption.

  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS (Education/Training, Experience and Certifications)

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred, with APICS or Project Manager certification in lieu of education.

  • 3-5 years’ related experience in production control, production planning, or material scheduling in a manufacturing environment.

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES (Those necessary to perform the job competently)

  • Highly proficient in Excel, including pivot tables and formulas.

  • High interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to make quick decisions and work independently.

  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

  • Open minded collaborative and team-oriented attitude.

  • Knowledge of the manufacturing process

  • Familiarity with materials management disciplines including production and inventory control

  • Ability to manage changing/conflicting priorities and resolve appropriately

  • Ability to effectively operate in any organizational structure


  • Works on the production/assembly floor thermostatically controlled to room temperature with adequate lighting and ventilation and with occasional elevated noise levels. May also work in a general warehouse environment with adequate lighting and ventilation with occasional elevated noise levels and a varying range of temperatures.

  • Work assignments are diversified. Examples of past precedent are used to resolve work problems. New alternatives may be developed to resolve problems.

  • A frequent volume of work and deadlines impose strain on routine basis.

  • Minimal physical effort is required; however, the job position does require frequent walking, standing, sitting, bending, reaching, lifting, or possibly carrying heavy objects weighing up to 40 lbs.
