About this role

You will be responsible for specifying, building, securing and supporting environments that enable subscriber services to function within a mobile phone cloud core network. You will have both the technical skills and proven experience to support the following areas:

• System Administration

• Primarily Ericsson Packet Core Gateway and Oracle Pre-Pay Control Function software

• Good knowledge of Security Vulnerabilities across the IT industry and experience of Security Hardening strategy and practice.

• Driving best practice in Data Security concepts and protection systems.

• Administrative tasks – monitoring, backups, user admin, vulnerability scanning.

• Provide 2nd/3rd line support of the BT Mobile Cloud Packet Core estate.

In this role you will be our team guru. It's an exciting time to join us as we go through change and you will develop the latest technology.

You'll have the following responsibilities

• Experience in designing, building, testing, using and trouble-shooting Linux systems at a very high level, ideally Ubuntu on Cisco UCS servers or similar.

• Additional Openstack experience (Ubuntu (bionic) OpenStack with charms (queens) in our case, moving to focal/ussuri soon).

• Deep Linux experience with particular emphasis on security, performance and management – to deal with installation issues, patching, fault discovery/alerting and problem resolution.

• Basic familiarisation with gitlab, wiki writing/editing for code/script updating and documentation.

• Experience using OpenStack tools to support a large OpenStack environment, including log and stat data to understand issues and tuning opportunities.

• A basic knowledge of computer IP networks and servers, plus MS Office tools such as Outlook, Teams, Excel.

• Ensure that all platforms/ systems/services in your control achieve the agreed availability target, ensure that adequate expert support is available 24 x 7 x 365

• Build/deploy K8S & K8S-based (eg CCD) cluster architecture, including tenant-specific Openstack & SDN components

• Provide 2nd line support to tenant teams, on all K8S & K8S-based (eg CCD) cluster architecture deployments

• Troubleshoot Network flows & connectivity between K8S cluster nodes

• Troubleshoot Network flows & connectivity between K8S pods, & between K8S pods and the adjacent SDN hand-off points

• Support containerised layer of tenant CNF including K8S & its features such as Load Balancing (ECFE for CCD), Docker components, Network plugins & CNI’s etc

• Triage faults on tenant NFVi layer, involving tenant-specific SDN & Openstack configuration, which may involve further investigation into Network Cloud supported infrastructure

• Act as support resource to tenant teams for application onboarding & instantiation tasks (eg troubleshoot the deployment of heat templates, performing health checks at K8S layer)

• Support & maintain virtualised F5 instances in tenant environments (to be used for CDR proxy, HTTP proxy, DNS Forwarding)

• Provide 2nd line support to tenant teams, of Virtual Machines/Instances within tenant environments.

• Supplier Management- Ensure that all cases escalated to support vendors are resolved within the appropriate time scales. Provide assistance to suppliers when required.

• Ensure documentation and support procedures are kept up to date.

• Mentor junior team members.

• Work with the other teams to develop, configure and maintain the infrastructure management solutions and tools required to manage all data services. Participate in all appropriate project forums.

• Provide support to various stakeholders such as Technology Operations Centre, Design, Build, Network Cloud and Dynamic Infrastructure, Capacity Planning, revenue Assurance and Customer Experience.

You'll have the following skills & experience

MANDATORY

• Strong Production Linux design/build experience. Come from a Mobile Cloud Core background within the telecoms Industry.

• Excellent understanding of the Containerisation, Kubernetes, Juniper SDN and Openstack environments.

• Be conversant with virtual network tenant technologies

• Receiving Security scan report results and Implementing highlighted patches using change management.

• Ensuring patches/changes have been tested (nonproduction and by vendor).

• Keeping audit of teams hardware and licencing details

PREFERRED

• Additional Production OpenStack experience.

• Technical Certification and training within the Network Cloud technologies.

• Exposure to system performance, diagnosis and investigations.

• Kubernetes, Juniper and Openstack vendor led training accreditation.

• Use of OSS tools to support performance related issues.

• Experience of dealing with 3rd party vendor support

• Experience in scripting languages (e.g.Bash & Perl)

• Exposure to Virtual technologies (ESX and ESXi)

• System patching tools

• Windows Active Directory and LDAP

• Integrate Servers with Centralised syslog management tools (e.g. Siem)
