The Field Sales Consultant in the K-12 school market is expected to strategically manage an assigned territory by conducting in-person (when travel is open) and over the phone sales consultation with teachers, curriculum directors, and administrators. You will develop and implement plans to achieve sales goals, and leverage data analytics to inform targeted efforts. In conjunction with the regional manager, you will use an advanced business intelligence toolkit to analyze sales performance, detect buying patterns, and identify priority accounts for outreach during sales planning. By providing quotes, product demonstrations, and other client services designed to promote Cengage products, you will build lasting relationships with customers.

Field sales consultants will develop relationships with a diverse group of people and are excited by the opportunity to interact with people who will influence education, have a drive for results, and enjoy originating, negotiating, and securing business to achieve sales goals.

What You'll Do Here:

Sales prospecting and execution

  • Manage a territory with strategic planning skills and strong time management to maximize sales revenue through account penetration and growth. Plan proactively but accept changes with flexibility and a vigor to pursue new directions.

  • Engage in sales call activities to prospective customers to explore and present product solutions of both our textbook and digital products, primarily in-person.

  • Represent, promote, and present NGL products to drive sell-through, digital activations, usage, and to form relationships with decision makers.

  • Attend conventions and evaluate sales/editorial opportunities as appropriate.

  • Use software-based analytics / business intelligence tools to identify and prioritize target accounts based on past sales and buying history

  • Contact targeted leads based on data insights.

  • Provide customers with sales quotes, and in person and online demonstrations of our products.

  • Use data to identify priorities for allocation of time and resources.

  • Conduct regular data admin for own win/loss data in CRM for thorough opportunity management.

  • Use Consultative Selling Skills framework to build lasting relationships with key instructors across assigned schools.

  • Approximately 70% travel to visit key customers, work conventions, trainings, and internal meetings.

Administrative

  • Provide accurate forecast and sales activity reporting through the use of company sales tools, including regular data maintenance for win/loss in the CRM.

  • Collaborate with other field Sales Consultants on techniques and strategies to achieve sales objectives.

  • Manage travel, business, and sampling budgets effectively

  • Ability to transport materials to customer locations is critical to this role, therefore must be able to lift 50 lbs. unaided and move up to 100 lbs. with mechanical assistance.

  • Conduct regular self-paced learning to further develop skills and knowledge.

    Skills You Will Need Here:

    Required

  • Bachelor’s degree strongly preferred and a proven, successful track record in a prior sales position.

  • Experience or strong aptitude for developing and maintaining relationships with a large and diverse group of customers.

  • Minimum of two years of successful sales experience.

  • Values and appreciates diversity of thought; able to work with diverse audiences both internally and externally.

  • Highly flexible and adaptable to change.

  • High energy and good communication skills both written and verbal.

  • Strong presentation skills.

  • Competitive spirit and high business acumen.

  • Demonstrated understanding of applied computer technology.

  • Comfortable utilizing technology in performing routine job tasks and for product demonstration purposes.

  • Outstanding organizational and time management skills.

  • Proficiency in PC and Microsoft Office applications.

  • Located within assigned sales territory

    Preferred

  • 2 years of teaching, sales or publishing experience

  • Sales experience in and/or strong knowledge of digital information delivery

  • Current or former teaching experience in the K-12 market.

  • Experience in selling to the education market.

  • Experience using contact management systems, such as Salesforce.com.

  • A demonstrated ability to navigate a complex and changing sales environment.
