The Dotcom team is a friendly, energetic engineering group responsible for the primary customer-facing hbomax.com web site that attracts millions of visitors through SEO, paid advertising, and partner relationships. On our team, your work will be the conduit to convert visitors into customers and is highly visible. We work closely with product, SEO, marketing, content, experimentation, and design to develop features and tools that empower our teams to build, deploy, and serve world-class, high-conversion, data-driven pages. We’re looking for Engineers that have an interest in the space and a passion for creating great software.
As a Backend Software Engineer on WarnerMedia's HBO Max Dotcom team, you will design and build solutions and APIs that connect various layers of our publishing platform, which powers hbomax.com. Join us as we expand our services across the globe and use your skills to develop business layers from the ground up that connect a distributed system used by hundreds of internal users and millions of visitors every month. You will own and improve systems that bridge between teams and will underpin the roadmap of the product for years to come. Design, improve, and protect large-scale systems that drive and power HBOMax.com
Evaluate multiple technical approaches and drive consensus with peers
Use data to solve real world problems and improve customer experience
Collaborate and partner with engineers of all levels
Ideate and innovate on complex software solutions
Mentor other engineers to help them grow both technically and professionally
Handle operational issues and troubleshoot bugs independently
Design and deliver complex architectures and distributed systems, including working through other engineers to help deliver the end solution
Work in an agile environment, working with peers to review code and deploy world-class features
The Essentials
2+ years of experience in software development building scalable services components for shipped consumer products or platforms, especially APIs for headless architectures
Significant Node.js experience
Be passionate about software engineering with a strong sense of ownership for the code that you and your team write
A strong understanding of Computer Science fundamentals, including algorithms, data structures, and operating systems
Passion for API development, especially using GraphQL and Lambda
Significant experience with document storage engines (NoSQL DBs) such as Elasticsearch and MongoDB
Solid understanding of caching engines such as Redis or Memcached
Be a quick learner that can leverage surrounding resources to solve problems
Seek self-improvement and adapt to suggestions and feedback
Hold yourself and your team to high standards while maintaining respectful relationships
Be passionate about software engineering with a strong sense of ownership for the code that you and your team write
Ability to provide periodic on-call support for critical emergent customer-facing issues
Full working knowledge of Git version control
A passion for learning, sharing knowledge, mentoring, and working in a team setting with engineers of varying levels of experience
Passion for collaboration, and fun is a must!
Nice to Haves
Bachelor's degree in an engineering or science-related discipline
Experience creating automated tests as part of the development lifecycle - passion for test driven development
Experience with a variety of back-end persistence, queuing and networking technologies, especially SMS, SQS, and SNS
DevOps experience, where you've owned and operated the systems you've developed, especially using AWS
Experience with CI/CD systems such as Github Actions, Azure Pipelines, and Jenkins
