Health Network Laboratories Histotechnologist in Allentown, Pennsylvania

Full-Time, 40 Hours Per Week, Day Shift, Monday - Friday W/Rotating Saturday, 06:00am - 02:30pm


Prepares surgical and autopsy specimen materials for clinical diagnosis. Assists pathologist in making various examinations on submitted specimens including all phases of varied and complex histological procedures involving relatively advanced histological work.

  • Identifies, prepares and processes tissue and body fluid specimens according to departmental Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) with minimal technical error.

  • Processes tissues utilizing automated techniques according to departmental SOPs.

  • Performs various sectioning and staining techniques as dictated by type of specimen (i.e. brain, bone, kidney, etc.) utilizing proper slide positioning.

  • Prioritizes/reorganizes work to respond to workload and/or STAT requests.

  • Recognizes and corrects instrument malfunctions within the scope of the operations manual and records troubleshooting activities.

  • Conducts established quality control and performance improvement activities.

  • Provides clinical orientation and/or training of new employees/students.

  • Participates in Service Recovery and continuing education programs.

  • Knowledge and skill embedding pathology specimens.

  • Microtomy knowledge and skill for all types of pathology tissues.

  • Functions appropriately for on-call demands.

  • Performs necessary barcoding functions.

Associate’s degree in a chemical, physical, biological or clinical laboratory science from an accredited institution; or equivalent education and/or experience by meeting CLIA 88 personnel requirements for Histotechnologists.

Language Ability:

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.

Math Ability:

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

Computer Skills:

Word processing, Spreadsheets, E-mail, Laboratory Information Systems

Certificates and Licenses:

Certification by a recognized certifying agency for clinical laboratory professionals preferred (ASCP, ASMT, NCA, etc).
