Stellar Science Software Product Manager in Albuquerque, New Mexico

Stellar Science is a growing Albuquerque-based scientific software development company providing leading-edge scientific software for its customers. We develop innovative new technologies by combining quality modern software development skills with scientific expertise in fields such as: computational geometry, image processing, scientific visualization, simulation, and numerical optimization.

Please note: This position is located in Albuquerque, NM. Remote work is not supported for this position.

Software Product Managers are involved in all aspects of the application software life cycle, from marketing & business development to design, testing, user experience, documentation, and customer interaction along the way. They work with software development team leads and management to leverage and improve our applications to make our customers happy. Software Product Managers streamline the delivery of software development services to our customers, working directly with customers to ensure deliverables fall within the applicable scope and budget. Software Product Managers work to ensure that the scope and direction of each project is on schedule. They need to be highly organized and detail oriented while also being a diplomatic problem solver. Typical duties of a Software Product Manager include but are not limited to:

  • Attend technical interchange meetings, briefing status and direction of projects.

  • Track and report project funding and status, per the contract requirements and/or the customer/prime contractors’ guidance, by CLIN, labor hours, story points, etc.

  • Develop and maintain in depth knowledge of Stellar Science technological history and work performed to leverage our abilities on new and emerging opportunities.

  • Receive feedback and feature change requests from customer and clearly convey details to software development team.

  • Resolve a significant and diverse range of complex problems and issues of broad scope and complexity, which require the use of ingenuity and creativity.

  • Show initiative on assignments, and professionally execute projects as a technical lead with minimal direction.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s in scientific or engineering discipline

  • 5+ years performing as a Software Project Manager for U.S. military or defense-related government contract

  • Ability to understand and report on the status of the budget, schedule, and scope of projects

  • Experience researching and preparing pricing estimates for task order or new work proposals

  • Capable and experienced interacting with and briefing all levels of military and executive stakeholders

  • Solid technical understanding and/or hands-on experience in software development

  • Strong understanding of scrum methodologies

  • Familiar with modeling and simulation tools – user experience, testing, debugging

  • General understanding of common government contract types: FFP, CPFF, T&M, etc.

  • Willingness to travel occasionally and work at client sites

  • Active DOD Top Secret Clearance (TS/SCI preferred)

  • Due to the nature of work, U.S. citizenship is required, as well as willingness to undergo a background investigation.

DESIRED:

  • Experience in domains of interest including space, satellites, physics, lasers, high power microwave, human body thermal modeling, high performance computing, or modeling & simulation
